Carmen Amato, 42, is a life-long resident of Berkeley Township who attended Bayville School and graduated Central Regional High School. He attended Ocean County College.
Carmen served for 5 years as a member – 2 of those years as President – of the Central Regional Board of Education. Carmen also served 7 years as a member – 2 of those years as President - of the Berkeley Township Board of Education. In all, Carmen served 12 consecutive years as a Board of Education Member and begins his 18th consecutive year, the longest currently serving, as an elected official in Berkeley Township, on all levels.

Carmen is currently a commissioner on the Ocean County Board of Health and serves on the Ocean County Commission on Exploited and Missing Children. Carmen served as Chairman for three years of the Berkeley Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, 2 terms on the Berkeley Township Recreation Advisory Council and many years as President of the Berkeley Township Voters and Taxpayers Organization. Carmen is a former member of the Bayville School PTA and Berkeley Township Elementary School PTA.

Carmen is a third degree Knight of Columbus and a former member of the Holy Name Society at St. Barnabas Parish in Bayville. Carmen is a member of the Holiday City Silver Ridge Park Italian American Club. Carmen is also a former Little League Vice President, coach and Manager. Carmen also coached in Berkeley Basketball where he served a year as Vice President and coached in Berkeley Pop Warner.
In addition to Carmen Amato’s lengthy record of public service, he also serves as Berkeley Township Republican Municipal Chairman and previously had served 5 years as President of The Regular Republican Organization of Berkeley Township. Carmen Amato is also a Republican County Committee member representing District 11, a post he’s held since 1994. Carmen also served as 2nd Vice President, Treasurer and Fundraising Chairman of the Ocean County Young Republican Organization.

Carmen has been employed by Ocean County for over 18 years as a seasonal and full time employee. Carmen is currently the Director of the Printing and Graphic Arts Department.
